Saginaw, MI - A three goal third period by the Saginaw Spirit was the catalyst for a 5-2 loss by the Erie Otters Friday night at The Dow Event Center.

The Spirit got on the board with 5:26 left in the first period as Josh Shalla scored on a backhander to give Saginaw a 1-0 lead going into the first intermission.

Luke Cairns tied the game with a shorthanded goal 20 seconds into the second period as he took a Nathan Glass pass for a breakaway and poked the puck between the legs of Jake Paterson as he was tripped up for his eighth goal of the season.

Garret Ross gave the Spirit a 2-1 lead six minutes into the second, but the Otters tied the game in the last minute of the period as Nick Betz deflected a Kris Grant shot during an Otters two-man advantage for his fifth goal of the season.

In the third period, the Spirit pulled away with three goals in a span of four minutes and 50 seconds. Jimmy Lodge scored the game-winner while Ross and Shalla each tallied their second goals of the game.

Devin Williams made his third consecutive start, and held the fort well once again as he stopped 32 shots in front of many family and friends in attendance. Williams has a .910 save percentage in four starts with the Otters.

Next up for the Otters is a road game Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Windsor Spitfires. The game will be broadcast on tape delay following the broadcast of Erie Bayhawks basketball on Fox Sports Radio AM 1330 The Fan.
