Erie Otters News Release

Erie, Pennsylvania - One of the best annual traditions in hockey continued on Saturday night in downtown Erie - the Teddy Bear Toss. For the Erie Otters, the 15th Annual Teddy Bear Toss (pres. by EHCA) represented the penultimate game before the final month of the year, and a chance at long-awaited redemption over the Mississauga Steelheads. Mississauga and Erie met three times coming into the Saturday game, with the former taking a commanding 3-0 series lead. With over six weeks since the last meeting, Erie would look to earn a hard-fought point against their geographic cross-conference foes at home.

An even-keel first period would see the two teams play to a scoreless opening 20. Erie would take the shot advantage early on thanks to a high-shooting power play, but see the early saves of Jack Ivankovic prevent any Erie opportunities from crossing. After 20 minutes, Erie would lead 13-9 in shots in a 0-0 game.

In the span of less than nine minutes to open the second period, the Mississauga Steelheads would showcase why they're one of the top teams in the league in striking four separate times. Mason Zebeski (7,8,9) would notch a hat trick in the opening 10, and Porter Martone (15) would add to his goal total as the Steelheads would take complete control. Erie would end up outshooting the Steelheads 17-16 in the frame, but trail 4-0 after 40.

The third period would see the Otters outshoot the Steelheads 18-11, but would be stonewalled bookend to bookend by the 48-save shutout performance of Jack Ivankovic. Meanwhile offensively, Finn Harding (3) would put the cherry on top for the Mississauga win as they would down the Otters 5-0 at the EIA. Erie would be swept in the season series by Mississauga with an 0-4 record.

Erie closes out the month of November on home ice, hosting the league's top team Kitchener on Wednesday, November 29. The Otters will then start off December closing out their travels to Owen Sound, playing the final pair of games at the Bayshore Community Centre.
