Erie Otters News Release
The Erie Otters (9-9-1-2) have recently saved all of its scoring for the third period.
On Friday evening against the Oshawa Generals, the Otters decided to start the goal parade 20 minutes early.
The Otters notched three second period goals and skated past the Generals, 3-2, in a very physical game to extend the Otters' win streak to four games.
In the first period, the Generals were the beneficiaries of a broken stick to put them ahead 1-0 at the 12:03 mark.
Otters' defenseman David Shields attempted to clear a loose puck up the right side boards when his composite stick snapped in half, sending a free puck to Nick Esposto. Esposto found line mate Conor Stokes in the slot, who had no problem finding the back of the net for his second goal of the season.
Janus turned away 15-of-16 shots in the first, as the Generals spent the majority of the period on the attack, holding the Otters to just six shots. But the Otters came out fighting in the second period - literally.
After a rebound goal by 2:54 seconds into the second period by Alain Berger put the Generals up 2-0, a pair of Otters decided to take matters into their own hands.
Wingers Shawn Szydlowski and Anthony Luciani dropped the gloves four minutes into the second period to send the crowd to its feet and jump start the rest of the Otters.
Andrew Yogan banged home the rebound from the right side of Oshawa goalie Michael Zador at the 8:45 mark to put Erie within one. Tyler Hostetter and Jordan Coccimiglio picked up the assists on the tally.
Three minutes later, New York Rangers prospect Mitch Gaulton lifted a puck past Zador's blocker off a beautiful pass from McKegg to tie the game at two and swing the momentum back in the Otters favor. Captain Zack Torquato picked up the secondary assist on the goal.
Less than four minutes later, McKegg found the score sheet once again to complete the comeback as the Otters took the lead 3-2.
McKegg finished a one timer over the stick of Zador with a pass through a defender from Torquato. The center became the fifth Otter in franchise history to collect 200 points in a career.
It was the third time all season Erie came back and won when trailing after the first 20 minutes.
The Otters hope to play spoiler tomorrow night as the defending Memorial Cup Champion Windsor Spitfires makes its first trip to Erie, slated for a 7:00 p.m. start. The first 1,000 fans through the gates of Tullio Arena receive a team photo of the Otters in their camouflage jerseys, which will be worn in tomorrow's game. There will also be a meet-and-greet after the game, brought to you by M.A. Sprickman Heating and Cooling.
Fans can purchase tickets through Ticketmaster, the Civic Center box office, or by calling 452-4857.
