Erie Otters News Release
The Erie Otters (25-23-1-1) trailed early in the contest against the Owen Sound Attack and were unable to recover in a 4-2 loss Sunday afternoon at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
Andrew Shaw scored 4:02 into the contest on a wraparound goal to give the Attack a 1-0 lead. He added his second of the game shorthanded on another wraparound at 2:45 of the second period. The Attack added two more later in the second to grab a 4-0 advantage.
Phil Varone ended Owen Sound's run of goals by putting the Otters on the board at 12:17 of the second. David Shields' shot careened off the mask of Michael Zador and behind the net, where Anthony Luciani set up Varone at the side of the net. Varone blasted the puck through the glove side of Zador for his 23rd goal of the season.
Shawn Szydlowski gave the Otters a glimmer of hope in the third period with his 27th goal of the season. Szydlowski fired a shot from the right circle that bounced right off the back of the net and out to put the Otters within two. Despite having some extra jump in the third period, the Otters couldn't solve Zador for the remainder of the game as the Attack prevailed.
Ramis Sadikov saved 42 shots for the Otters as he was busy in net throughout the afternoon, while Varone (1g, 1a) and Luciani (2a) continued their strong scoring outbursts with two-point games.
The Otters return home to welcome David Broll and the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds to Tullio Arena Friday night at 7:00 p.m. Students that show their ID at the Box Office can get into the game for $5.00. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster, at the Civic Center Box Office, online at ottershockey.com, or by calling 814-452-4857.
