Otters dropped by Spirit

SAGINAW, MI - Vaclav Meidl and Tom Pyatt each scored once and added two assists to lead the Saginaw Spirit to a 5-1 win over the Erie Otters in an Ontario Hockey League game played tonight in front of 3,998 at the Dow Event Center.

Michal Birner and Chris Chappell netted the other Saginaw goals. The Spirit improved to 30-26-1-0 with the win.

Vince Scott netted the lone Otters goals. The loss was Erie's second straight as they dropped to 21-30-3-3 on the season. The Otters remain three points behind the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Erie holds one game in hand. The Spirit led 2-1 after one and 3-1 heading into the third.

The Otters out shot the Spirit 39-37 in the game as Josh Disher took the loss. The three stars of the game were all from the Spirit. Goalie Francois Thuot was the first, Pyatt the second and Meidl the third.

The Otters return to action tomorrow night when they complete a two-game road trip in Plymouth against the Whalers. The game can be heard live on SportsRadio 1330 The FAN and on line at www.ottershockey.com (presented by the James H. Cross Company) beginning with the pre-game show at 7:15 p.m.

The next Otters home game takes place Saturday when the Ottawa 67's visit the Tullio Arena for a 7:30 p.m. start.
