Otters drop second straight

GUELPH, Ont. – Tyler Doig scored his second goal of the game 2:06 into overtime to lift the Guelph Storm to a 5-4 overtime win over the Erie Otters in an Ontario Hockey League game played this afternoon in front of 4,125 at the Guelph Sports and Entertainment Centre.

Matt D'Agostini added a goal and an assist for the Storm while Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn and Ryan Callahan also scored. Guelph improved to 6-4-1 on the season with their second straight victory.

Geoff Platt paced the Otters with a goal and two assists. Derrick Bagshaw, Tomas Galasek and Chris Greene, with the first of his OHL career, scored for the Otters. Rob Hisey collected two assists and Ryan O'Marra saw his five-game point-scoring streak (5-6-11) come to an end.

The Otters slipped to 4-2-1-1 with the loss and completed the road trip with a 0-1-1-1 record.

The Storm led 2-1 after one and 4-2 heading into the third. Galasek and Greene scored in the third to force overtime.

Jhase Sniderman started for the Otters but was replaced early in the second after allowing four goals on 21 shots. Josh Disher completed the game turning aside 18 of the 19 shots he faced.

The Storm out shot the Otters 40-29 in the game. The three stars of the game were 1. Doig; 2. Platt and 3. Guelph defenseman Daniel Girardi, who collected two assists.

The next Otters home game takes place this Friday (October 22nd) when the Toronto St. Michael's Majors make their first visit to the Tullio Arena for a 7:30 p.m. start. The first 1,000 fans into the game receive a free Otters stick courtesy of Rocket 101.

Saturday (October 23rd) the Otters welcome the Sudbury Wolves to the Tullio Arena for a 7:30 p.m. start. The Hanson Brothers bring their famous Slap Shot characters to Erie presented by Coca-Cola and Team Hardinger Transportation.
