Ice Dogs storm back to beat Spirit

(Mississauga, ON) -- The Mississauga Ice Dogs gave up the first goal to Saginaw Sunday, but scored the next six to defeat the Spirit 6-1. Saginaw Spirit forward Peter Franchin opened scoring at the seven minute mark of the first period, with Jean-Michel Rizk and Daniel Borges assisting.

Mississauga answered 22 seconds later, when forward Michael Swift equalized. Winger Jordan Owens scored late in the first period to make it 2-1 Mississauga.

The Spirit nearly tied the game in the 2nd period, on a 4-4 chance, when Paul Bissonnette fed Marek Kvapil. But the Ice Dogs picked up the rebound and charged back down ice and Patrick O'Sullivan scored to make it 3-1. O'Sullivan finished the game with one goal and three assists. Mississauga scored three times in the third period, on goals from Michael Swift, Chad Painchaud and Anthony Butera.

Spirit goaltender Mike Brown turned back 26 Mississauga shots in the effort. The loss takes Saginaw's record to 2-6-1-2 on the season, good for seven points. Saginaw returns to action Sunday Friday, October 22nd versus the Belleville Bulls at the Dow Event Center.
