Erie Otters News Release

Mike Blunden scored twice and added three assists to lead the Erie Otters to an 8-2 win over the Mississauga IceDogs in an Ontario Hockey League game played tonight in front of 3,108 at the Tullio Arena.

Ryan O'Marra added two goals and an assist for the Otters while Nick Palmieri also scored twice. Single scores went to Jordan Nolan (the first of his career) and Derrick Bagshaw. Brett MacLean collected two assists.

The Otters improved to 7-6 with their second straight win. Mississauga dropped to 3-10 as they lost for the fourth straight time.

Blunden's two goals were scored in just eight seconds to establish a new Otters record eclipsing the previous mark set by Derrell Upton who scored twice in 13 seconds against the Owen Sound Attack on November 10, 1996. Blunden's five points marked a career high and were the most by a member of the Otters in a single game since Geoff Platt registered five in a 5-3 win over Toronto on October 23, 2004.

Drew Schiestel and Jordan Owens scored for the IceDogs.

O'Marra opened the scoring just 16 second into the game as the Otters built a 4-0 lead after one. The Otters netted the lone two goals of the second to ride into the third up 6-0.

The Otters out shot the IceDogs 34-29 in the game as Josh Disher posted his second straight victory.

The three stars of the game were all from the Otters. Blunden was the first, O'Marra the second and Palmieri the third.

The Otters return to action with road game Friday and Saturday in Owen Sound. Both games can be heard live on SportsRadio 1330 The FAN and on-line at www.ottershockey.com (presented by the James H. Cross Company). Hamot Hockey Night begins with the pre-game show at 7:15 p.m.

The next Otters home game takes place Saturday, November 5th when the Kitchener Rangers make their first visit of the season to the Tullio Arena for a 7:30 p.m. start. Tickets for the game are available at all Erie-area TicketMaster locations as well as the Civic Center Box Office.
