Erie Otters News Release
Oshawa, Ontario - The Otters fell 4-1 on the road to the Oshawa Generals Sunday night in a battle for the top of the standings. Taylor Raddysh scored the only goal for the Otters in the first period.
The top two teams in the Ontario Hockey League needed only the first half of the first period to open the scoring. Tobias Lindberg found the back of the net first, but just over a minute later at 8:21, Raddysh went five hole on Ken Appleby, tying the game at one. The number one power play in the league went to work with Cory Genovese in the box late in the period, but the Otters, the number three penalty kill, kept the Generals silent throughout the man advantage to finish out the first 20 minutes of play.
Play continued to be even for Erie and Oshawa throughout the first half of the second period. Sam Harding gave the Generals a 2-1 lead with just over five minutes to go, with Mason Marchment nearly tying the game once again, but Appleby made a huge save for the Generals, keeping Erie off the board. What looked like a possible goal for Oshawa at the end of the period turned out to be a massive save by Devin Williams, holding the Generals to a one-goal lead into the second intermission.
Oshawa pulled ahead 3-1 39 seconds into the third, Hunter Smith finding an opening behind Williams. The Otters got their first and only power play of the night just over two minutes in, but the Generals took control, keeping Erie off the board. Despite chances for the Otters, it was Oshawa scoring next, Michael Del Colle netting the final Generals goal for the 4-1 final. Dylan Strome was sent down the runway with less than 20 seconds to go with a slashing minor and a misconduct for abuse of official.
The Otters move on to Kitchener Tuesday night to take on the Rangers before heading home to host the Saginaw Spirit Friday and the Oshawa Generals Saturday.
