Ottawa RedBlacks Announce Team Award Winners

OTTAWA - The Ottawa REDBLACKS on Wednesday announced the team's award winners for the 2021 season, as voted on by head coaches and members of the media.

- Receiver and returner DeVonte Dedmon is the team's nominee for Most Outstanding Player, as well as unanimous nominee for the John Agro Special Teams Award, as the league's most outstanding special teams player.

- Linebacker Avery Williams has been nominated for the CFL's Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award.

- Kicker Lewis Ward is the nominee for Most Outstanding Canadian.

- Offensive lineman Mark Korte is the unanimous nominee for Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman.

- Receiver Ryan Davis was nominated as the CFL's Most Outstanding Rookie.

The REDBLACKS nominees will compete for East Division honours this month and finally, league-wide awards, which will be announced during Grey Cup Week.

Dedmon, 25, has enjoyed a breakout 2021 campaign with the REDBLACKS. Through 10 games this season, he has racked up a combined 2685 return yards across punts and kicks, along with three touchdowns. With his latest return major, Dedmon became the fastest player in CFL history to reach five career return touchdowns, in just 15 games. He has also chipped in on offence, totalling 65 rushing yards and a touchdown, to go with 98 receiving yards. Dedmon signed a one-year extension with the REDBLACKS, this season.

A three-year veteran of the CFL, Williams is currently third in the league in defensive tackles, with 83. The Baltimore, Maryland native has been the anchor of the REDBLACKS defence this season, also racking up a forced fumble that he recovered, and his first career interception.

Ward has converted 29 field goals on 35 attempts in 2021, tying the second-longest of his career at 52 yards. The Kingston, Ontario product has totalled 408 points for the REDBLACKS this season, and inked a one-year extension for the 2022 season.

In his third season with the REDBLACKS, Korte has suited up in 12 games, proving an invaluable asset to an offensive line that has been dealt a slew of injuries. The 25 year-old has played every position on the line, and served as a pillar of consistency up front.

A native of St. Petersburg, Florida, Davis' rookie campaign with the REDBLACKS has seen him record 567 receiving yards on 52 receptions, along with two touchdowns. He has also posted 43 rushing yards on nine attempts, and posted a combined 481 return yards.

The REDBLACKS take on the Montreal Alouettes at Percival Molson Stadium, Friday night, in their final game of the 2021 season.
