April 18, 2008 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Ottawa Voyageurs News Release
With the Ottawa Rapids first game of their inaugural season just around the corner, the team gets closer to a full roster by signing two players.
Scotty McKnight, the newest member of the team, is a 23-year-old shortstop from California. The strong defensive player's last season was spent with the Helena Brewers of the Pioneer League.
Jabe Bergeron is a 26-year-old first-baseman from New Hampshire. His last season was with the Can-Am League's Sussex Skyhawks, where he boasted a record of 51 runs, 102 hits with 5 homeruns in 88 games. In 2007, he had an impressive batting average of .304.
"I'm extremely happy to acquire these two experienced players for two key positions on the team," says Ed Nottle, the Rapids field manager. "They're both fine defensive players and Bergeron has the ability to add that extra pop in the middle of our line-up."
Tryouts for those with college or professional experience are being held on May 8th at the Ottawa Stadium.
