Portland Beavers News Release

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Sean Rodriguez homered and drove in three runs and Sean O'Sullivan picked up a win in his Triple-A debut with 6 1/3 strong innings as the Salt Lake Bees defeated the Portland Beavers, 9-3, in their series opener at Spring Mobile Ballpark Saturday night.

Rodriguez hit a two-run double in the first and his team-leading sixth home run of the year, a solo shot in the fourth, to lead the Bees (11-5), who had four players with two hits each - Rodriguez, Freddy Sandoval, Matt Brown and Chris Pettit.

O'Sullivan (1-0), starting in place of right-hander Anthony Ortega, who was called up by the Angels and made his major league debut Saturday, allowed two runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out four to record his first Triple-A victory.

Cesar Ramos (1-1) entered the contest with the PCL's third-lowest ERA at 1.29 but surrendered six runs on six hits and four walks across four innings to take the loss for the Beavers (10-7).

Chad Huffman hit his third home run of the year in the sixth inning, Will Venable added an RBI single in the seventh and Drew Macias came home on a ninth-inning error to provide the scoring for Portland.

The Bees loaded the bases in the first inning with two walks and a single before Pettit and Rodriguez hit consecutive two-run doubles to give the Bees a 4-0 lead after one.

Rodriguez homered leading off the fourth inning and Bradley Coon added an RBI single later in the frame.

Portland had an opportunity to put up a big inning in the seventh when it loaded the bases with one out, but Robert Mosebach induced an infield fly from Emil Brown and a force-out from Kevin Howard to escape with just one run's worth of damage, the RBI single by Venable.

Salt Lake tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the seventh with a bases-loaded walk and a sacrifice fly and added another in the eighth on an RBI groundout.

Eliezer Alfonzo collected two hits and a run scored for the Beavers, who stranded 10 in the loss.

The two teams meet again for a Sunday matinee tomorrow in Salt Lake City. First pitch slated for 1:05 p.m. (Pacific).
