MISSOULA, MONT. - Danny Pulfer hit a two-run triple to highlight a five-run second-inning rally, lifting the Missoula Osprey to an 8-3 win over the Great Falls Voyagers on Friday in Game 1 of the Pioneer Baseball League North Division Series here at Ogren Park Allegiance Field.
With the win, the Osprey take a 1-0 edge in the Best-of-3 playoff series, with Games 2 and 3 (if needed) to be played at Centene Stadium in Great Falls on Saturday and Sunday.
The Osprey managed to get five runs on four hits and a walk off of Voyagers starter Chris Beck (0-1), and also took advantage of an error to fuel the second-inning rally. The lead was enough for Osprey starter Chris Pack (1-0) to protect, as he allowed only one run while scattering six hits and three walks in five innings of work to pick up the win on the mound.
Mike Blake pitched a scoreless sixth inning, and Dexter Price came on to pitch the final three innings, allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits while earning the save.
Breland Almadova had two hits and two RBIs, while Pulfer and Pedro Ruiz each finished with a pair of RBI for the Osprey, who finished with nine hits on the night. Michael Perez added two hits and a RBI, while Andrew Velazquez chipped in with an RBI single. Jake Lamb, Rudy Flores and Alex Glenn each added a hit and a run scored for Missoula.
The Osprey will head to Great Falls for Game 2 of the series on Saturday at Centene Stadium. Right-hander Karl Triana will get the start for the Osprey, while the Voyagers will counter with right-hander Brandon Brennan.
