Missoula PaddleHeads News Release
The Missoula Osprey rallied in the bottom of the ninth inning, but the Great Falls Voyagers managed to hold on for a 6-5 win on Tuesday at Ogren Park Allegiance Field in front of 1,955 fans.
JR Bradley made his professional debut for Missoula (3-6), starting the game by allowing a leadoff double and pitching out of trouble. Great Falls (5-4) would score twice in each of the next two innings, taking a 4-2 lead.
Bradley battled through 2 2/3 innings, throwing 39 pitches, and scattering seven hits and a walk. The tough outing ended when Michael Earley hit a two-out, two-run home run to give the Voyagers the lead.
That advantage lasted until the bottom of the sixth. Javan Williams led off the inning with an infield hit, and Raul Navarro hit his third triple in the last two nights, scoring Williams to pull the Osprey within 4-3. Adam Eaton then singled home Navarro to tie the score.
Great Falls managed to manufacture a run in the eighth, on a walk, sacrifice, stolen base and wild pitch, then scored another in the ninth - following a 25-minute lightning delay - on a walk, a two-base error and a sacrifice fly, to take a 6-4 lead.
The Osprey mounted a charge in the bottom of the ninth. Chris Jarrett singled to lead off the ninth, moved to second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a fly out and scored on another wild pitch to pull the Osprey within 6-5.
Richie Rowland then came up with a two-out, pinch-hit infield single, but Raul Navarro could not get pinch-runner Antonio Sepulveda around to score the tying run, grounding out to third base to end the game.
The Osprey were held to eight hits. Jae Yun Kim homered, a two-run shot, while Eric Groff had two hits, his fifth multi-hit game of the season for Missoula. Adonys Canelo added a double for the Osprey. Eaton's sixth-inning single also extended his season-opening hit streak to nine games.
The Osprey and Voyagers will close out their series on Wednesday at Ogren Park Allegiance Field. Right-hander Robby Rowland will make his professional debut for the Osprey, while right-hander Addison Reed (0-0) gets the start for the Voyagers.
