BILLINGS, MT - The Missoula Osprey had a four-game win streak snapped on Monday at Dehler Park, as the Billings Mustangs scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and held on for a 5-3 win in front of 2,129 fans.
Bobby Stone hit his 14th home run of the season, and drove in two runs for the second straight night for the Osprey (13-14, 34-31). Despite the loss, Missoula stays in sole possession of first place in the Pioneer League's North Division. Great Falls and Helena had their game suspended in the bottom of the first inning by rain.
Michael Noboa, getting a chance to start at second base, and Chris Owings each reached in their first three at-bats. Noboa singled twice and was hit by a pitch, while Owings had three singles. However, only Noboa scored a run - on Stone's fifth-inning single which gave the Osprey a 1-0 lead.
Billings scored four times in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 4-1 lead, but the Osprey would reply in the top of the eighth. Stone homered to right field, followed by back-to-back doubles by Paul Goldschmidt and Ramon Castillo, who also had two hits on the night, to move the score to 4-3. Mustang reliever Brian Pearl would come on and get the final six out to preserve the win, earning his seventh save in as many chances.
Bobby Borchering also singled for the Osprey, who finished the night with 11 hits.
Missoula now heads to Helena to start a three-game series with the Brewers at Kindrick Legion Field beginning Tuesday. Enrique Burgos will get the start for the Osprey, while right-hander Kyle Heckathorn will get the call for the Brewers.
