Oshawa Generals News Release
OSHAWA, ON - The Oshawa Generals are pleased to announce that Bob Jones is the new head coach of the team. Generals Owner Rocco Tullio made the announcement and introduced Jones at a press conference in Oshawa this morning.
Jones has an impressive resume with almost 20 years of OHL coaching experience as an associate coach, an assistant coach and as a head coach. He has spent the last eight years with the Windsor Spitfires, where he won two Memorial Cup Championships in 2009 and 2010 as an associate coach.
"It's an exciting time to open a new chapter for the Oshawa Generals and having Bob Jones as the head coach is a real instrumental piece of writing that chapter," says Oshawa Generals General Manager and Vice-President, Roger Hunt. "There aren't many people that know the OHL inside and out like Bob does. He's been in the league for 20 years as an associate coach and as an assistant coach guiding Windsor to two Memorial Cup wins and Sudbury to an OHL Final. We scoured various leagues to find the right guy and someone that will be able to take the team over from DJ Smith, and we feel the best man for the job is Bob Jones."
Jones began his coaching career with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds where he spent three seasons as the assistant coach. After a year with the Brampton Battalion, Jones was the associate coach for the Toronto St. Michael's Major for three seasons. Before his time in Windsor, he served as the assistant coach of the Sudbury Wolves, winning the Bobby Orr Trophy as Eastern Conference Champions in 2006-07.
We're looking forward to a new season with Jones as the head coach. He will make his head coaching debut with the Generals in September. The first two games of the regular season are on the road, before the team heads to the General Motors Centre for the home opener on Sunday, Sept. 27 at 6:05p.m.
