Boise Hawks News Release
BOISE, Idaho - Eddie Orozco struck out Francisco Sosa with the tying and winning run on base in the bottom of the ninth inning, helping the Boise Hawks to a key 7-6 victory over the Tri-City Dust Devils, before 3,135 fans at Gesa Stadium.
The win was the Hawks fifth-straight against Tri-City and their fifth-straight road victory, improving their record in the second half to 16-8.
A one-out walk to Kyle Von Tungeln and a Rosell Herrera single gave Tri-City a chance in the ninth, but Orozco got Tom Murphy to fly out and got Sosa to chase a curve ball down in the zone to notch his team-leading fifth save.
The Hawks rallied from a 1-0 deficit with two outs in the third, as Jeimer Candelario drove in Lance Rymel with an RBI single, scoring himself on a Dan Vogelbach RBI triple. Boise would add to their lead with a four-run fourth, capped by a three-run Stephen Bruno homer.
Leading 7-1, Tri-City rallied with three in the fifth and added a Herrera two-run double in the seventh, but stranded three runners in scoring position in the final four innings.
Mike Heesch got the win, tossing two shutout innings of relief for the Hawks. Vogelbach went 3-for-5, with Rymel, Albert Almora, and Izaac Garsez each recording two hits. Herrera went 3-for-5 in the loss for Tri-City.
Game 3 of the series is tomorrow night at 8:15 p.m. (MT), with Jose Arias meeting Peter Tago.
NOTES - The Hawks will shoot for their first three-game road sweep since August of 2004 (also in Tri-City)...starter Justin Amlung went two innings, allowing a run on three hits...lefty Matt Iannazzo was promoted prior to the game to Class-A Daytona.
