Orlando's Matson Named CCM ECHL Rookie of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Orlando Solar Bears forward Taylor Matson is the CCM ECHL Rookie of the Month for February.

The 25-year-old scored eight goals, added 11 assists and was a +8 in 12 games during February.

A native of Mound, Minn., Matson had at least one point in 9 of 12 games during the month, including a four-point game (1g-3a) in a 4-3 win at Kalamazoo on Feb. 23, and back-to-back three-point games on Feb. 14 and Feb. 15 against Gwinnett. He was named ECHL Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 23 after posting seven points (3g-4a) and a +6 rating in three games.

Matson has 31 points (13g-18a) and is fifth among ECHL rookies in plus-minus with a +15 in 24 games. He has also appeared in 31 American Hockey League games with Iowa, posting five points (3g-2a).

Selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the sixth round (176th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Matson recorded 42 points (21g-21a) in 108 career games at the University of Minnesota.

Runners Up: Greg Miller, Bakersfield (12 gp, 5g, 11a, 16 pts.) and Yannick Veilleux, Kalamazoo (11 gp, 8g, 7a, 15 pts.).
