Orlando City SC News Release
ORLANDO - June 5, 2015 - The Orlando City SC U-16 and U-18 U.S. Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) teams have advanced to the national playoffs, marking the first time both teams have made it to the postseason in the same year.
"We're very pleased with the individual development of the players. We've seen good improvement throughout all the age groups, and it's exciting that now both the 16s and 18s are in the playoffs," said Orlando City Pro Academy Coach Darren Powell. "But the most important thing for all the players, whether they're U-9 or U-18, is to continue working on all aspects of the game and that's what we stress every day."
Advancing to the playoffs extends successful campaigns for both sides. The U-16s finished atop the Southeast Division, which consists of 12 teams, compiling an impressive 23-5-7 record for 76 points to finish first place in the conference.
The U-18s notched 61 points in the Southeast Division, finishing third in their conference behind Capital Area Railhawks and Kendall SC to claim a playoff berth.
Both teams will venture into the playoffs on June 22nd, competing against premier teams from across the United States.
Orlando City's Development Academy Program is the pinnacle of the Orlando City youth pyramid, providing the highest level of competition available for Central Florida's brightest young talent.
As part of City's commitment to developing young prospects, all Orlando City USSDA players receive full funding, including registration, travel and uniform costs.
