Orlando City B Falls to NYCFC II in Penalty Shootout Following 1-1 Draw

June 4, 2022 - MLS NEXT Pro (MLS NEXT Pro)
Orlando City B News Release

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Orlando City B (2-4-3, 11 points) played to a 1-1 draw against NYCFC II (5-3-3, 19 points), but fell in the penalty shootout 5-3 on Saturday night at Osceola Heritage Park. This was the first penalty shootout the Lions have lost this season after previously beating NYCFC II and New England Revolution 2 earlier this season.

Jack Lynn found the back of the net for Lions in what serves as his league-leading eighth goal of the season. He also made the NYCFC II goalkeeper go the wrong way and rocketed the ball into the net during the penalty shootout. Lynn has scored in three consecutive games for Orlando with six of his eight goals coming during that span.

As previously announced, there will be no draws in MLS NEXT Pro as per the league's 2022 Competition Guidelines. Matches that end on level terms will be decided by penalty-kick shootouts.

Orlando City B Head Coach Martín Perelman:

"I think we had a good first half. We could have won that half 4-0. We knew New York and we did our plan well and created situations but didn't score. They play well and they are a good team. We tried to defend that and we knew that was part of the game where they would control the ball. It was set piece for them and then penalties are penalties. Overall, a tough game."

Scoring Recap:

14' Jack Lynn (Nick Taylor) - OCB 1, NYCFC II 0

The Lions opened the scoring after a set piece was whipped in and found the feet of Jack Lynn who took a clean first touch and struck the ball with his right foot into the bottom left corner of the net.

62' John Dennis - NYCFC II 1, OCB 1

The visitors leveled the game in the second half after John Dennis curled the ball around the wall and into the back of the net off of a free kick.

Match Notes:

Jack Lynn notched his eighth goal of the campaign which leads the league so far this season. Lynn has scored six goals in the last three games for Orlando.

Nick Taylor picked up his first assist of the season finding Jack Lynn on the set piece for the opening goal.

The Lions closed out their homestand going unbeaten in two of their three previous games.

Head Coach Martín Perelman made two changes to his starting lineup from the side's previous game, with Taylor and Van Marter stepping in for the side.

Next Match: Orlando City B will head to Gillette Stadium to take on New England Revolution II on Saturday, June 11. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET.
