Orlando City B Drops 2020 Season Opener at Tormenta FC

August 1, 2020 - United Soccer League One (USL1) - Orlando City B News Release

STATESBORO, Ga. (Aug. 1, 2020) - Orlando City B (0-1-0, 0 points) made its 2020 USL League One debut on Saturday night, falling 2-0 to South Georgia Tormenta FC (1-0-2, 5 points) at Erk Russell Park.

The match was the first at the helm for Head Coach Marcelo Neveleff, who rolled out a lineup that featured two 2020 MLS SuperDraft picks in Austin Aviza and Nick O'Callaghan as well as recent First Team Homegrown signee, Michael Halliday. The Lions' opening day lineup was heavy on youth, with all starters under the age of 24, including 16-year-old debutant Wilfredo Rivera.

Aviza, who was selected No. 44 overall earlier in the year by the Lions, made seven saves in the match including a point blank stop on Tormenta's Marco Micaletto in the 53rd minute. The home side, however, broke through three minutes later when Nil Vinyals rocketed a distance shot off the crossbar and in. Vinyals doubled the lead 14 minutes later.

The Lions will continue on the road in their next match, traveling to face New England Revolution II on Friday at Gillette Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. ET.
