Orange County Flyers Trounced Tijuana 19-2

July 29, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Orange County Flyers News Release

After missing nearly a month of the season on the inactive list with an injury, first baseman Julian Benavidez made it clear he was back on Wednesday night as the Orange County Flyers trounced the Tijuana Cimarrones, 19-2. Benavidez led all Flyers going 4-for-4 with a game-high three RBI and four runs scored to lead OC over the Rams at Yuma's Ray Kroc Baseball Complex in the second game of a doubleheader.

The Flyers (8-3 second half, 30-26 overall) have won their last six games while the Cimarrones have extended their GBL-record skid to 18 losses.

Benavidez led a hit-parade that featured five other Flyers - Jimmy Rohan, Tyler Keeble, Alex Jamieson, Eric Pringle and David Harris - with multi-RBI performances. Sergio Pedroza also crossed the plate four times in the blowout.

Jake Renshaw earned the win for Orange County, tossing two scoreless innings with three strike outs. Reshaw combined with relievers Mike Koons and Bryan Harris to keep Tijuana off the scoreboard after the Cimarrones took their only lead of the three-game series, a 2-1 advantage after the second inning. The Flyers got back in front on a Benavidez two-run single and never looked back.

Former Major Leaguer Cha-Seung Baek made the start for Orange County, allowing two runs off three hits while striking out five Cimarrones over three innings of work. The Cimarrones used six different pitches who combined to walk 11 Flyers over the seven-inning game.

Orange County is off Thursday before facing the Edmonton Capitals for three games at home on Friday (6:05pm) and a doubleheader Saturday (5:05pm). Tickets are available by calling the Flyers office at (714) 526-8326 or visiting www.OrangeCountyFlyers.com.
