July 29, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Tucson Toros News Release
The Tucson Toros wrapped up their road trip by defeating the St. George RoadRunners 6-5 on Wednesday. With the victory, Tucson won the series by taking two of three games at Bruce Hurst Stadium.
Tucson entered the 6th inning trailing by a run, but the Toros would capitalize on some wildness by the St. George bullpen to take the lead. A Ryan Priddy single and a pair of walks loaded the bases for 3B Wally Backman Jr., who drew a walk of his own to bring in a run. 1B Christobal Santana followed with a sacrifice fly to right field to give Tucson a 6-5 lead.
In addition to the sac fly Santana also added 3 hits, all going for extra bases. Santana's 5th homer of the season and a pair of doubles extended his hitting streak to 12 games. Santana's hot streak has also raised his batting average to .369, good for 5th best in the Golden Baseball League.
Tucson starter Cody Walden scattered 10 hits, allowing 4 earned runs to get the win and improve to 3-1 on the season. Reliever Reid Price took over in the 7th, striking out 2 in a 2 scoreless innings. Closer Emiliano Fruto maintained the 1-run lead in the 9th to notch his 10th save.
The Toros will head home to Tucson tomorrow to host the Tijuana Cimarrones for a 3-game series beginning on Thirsty Thursday at 7:00 p.m. The game can be heard live on COOL 1450 AM or video streaming over the internet at www.tucsontoros.com.
