July 29, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Tucson Toros News Release
The Tucson Toros drop the first game of the home series against the Tijuana Cimarrones 2-0 Thursday night after a 2 run 8th inning by the visiting squad.
Both starting pitchers were locked in a pitcher's duel throughout most of the game.
Righty James Garcia of the Toros threw seven scoreless innings, allowing 7 hits while striking out 4.
Opposing lefty Jake Worthman of Tijuana matched Garcia's performance with 7 scoreless innings of his own, striking out 4 and allowing just 6 hits.
However it was Worthman who received the decision, winning for the first time this season as Tijuana's bats finally came alive in the eighth to break the scoreless tie with back-to-back RBI singles to left.
Tucson stranded 7 base runners throughout the course of the 2-0 loss.
Earlier in the game, Toros 1B Cristobal Santana increased his hitting streak to 13 straight games as he smacked two singles up the middle in both the 4th and 6th innings.
Santana now has 5 multi-hit games during his hot streak.
Be there tomorrow night at 7 PM as Toros Ace Vince Davis takes the mound on Fireworks Friday!
The game can be heard live on COOL 1450 AM or video streaming over the internet at www.tucsontoros.com.
