Idaho Stampede News Release
BOISE, Idaho (February 14, 2006) - Saturday night will be a special one for the Idaho Stampede as they honor those that have served our country in the armed forces. It is Operation Opening Doors at Qwest Arena and will signify the grand finale to the community effort spearheaded by US Bank and the Idaho Stampede. The game will feature players in camouflage jerseys and there will be a special halftime presentation to various local contributors. Additionally, the first 1000 people in the door will receive camouflage wristbands.
Operation Opening Doors is a program created intended to retrofit and reconstruct the homes of soldiers that were injured while serving their country. The program is made possible through the support of the Association of General Contractors (AGC), Washington Group International (WGI), US Bank and the Idaho Stampede Foundation.
Money has been raised through the sale of camouflage wristbands and through a silent auction conducted at Stampede games. Fans can participate in the silent auction by bidding on the camouflage jerseys that the players will wear during Saturday's game. The auction will conclude at halftime of Saturday night's game.
During the game's halftime events, Boise Office Equipment and US Bank will be presented with Certificates of Appreciation, the AGC and WGI will receive commemorative jerseys and the Idaho Stampede and US Bank will present General Lafrenz with a check on behalf of Operation Opening Doors. The halftime festivities will conclude with the performance of The Amazing Christopher, the famous puppeteer.
Following the game, players will give their jerseys to the winning bidders down on the court. They will be available for pictures and autographs.
Game time is 7:10 p.m. and doors open at 6:00. The Stampede will take on Western Conference leading Yakama Sun Kings.
