Opening Night Roster Unveiled

The Adirondack Phantoms have officially announced their Opening Night roster for the 2012-13 season. The roster remains unchanged from earlier in the week when the team arrived in Glens Falls for the continuation of training camp.

The Phantoms official Opening Night roster includes 15 forwards, eight defensemen, and two goalies. Ten Phantoms have experience in the NHL including nine who played with the Philadelphia Flyers last year.

There will be plenty of recognition among Phantoms fans on this Adirondack roster. 20 out of the 25 on the roster have played for the Phantoms in the past including 18 players who were with the team last year.

The only minor change involves defenseman Jeff Dimmen who was previously on a tryout contract who has now been signed to an AHL contract with Adirondack.

The ten players on the Phantoms roster who played for the Flyers previously include: Marc-Andre Bourdon, Sean Couturier, Erik Gustafsson, Ben Holmstrom, Brandon Manning, Zac Rinaldo, Danny Syvret, Brayden Schenn, Eric Wellwood an Harry Zolnierczyk. All of those players were with the Flyers last season except for Danny Syvret who was with Peoria (AHL) last year and played for Philadelphia in previous seasons.

Schenn scored 12 goals with the Flyers in his rookie season last year and also had six goals in only seven games while with the Phantoms. Couturier also had an impressive debut season as he racked up 13 goals in the NHL at only 18 years old and then later added a hat trick in a playoff game against Pittsburgh.

The Opening Night rosters were required to be filed to the AHL today as teams embark on the first games of season. Adirondack opens the campaign on Saturday night against the Portland Pirates at the Glens Falls Civic Center. The Phantoms will be wearing retro-throwback jerseys of the Adirondack Red Wings that will be available to the fans via live auction immediately after the game. Phantoms magnet schedules will be given away courtesy of Great Meadow Federal Credit Union.
