Frederick Keys News Release
Mounting a rally against a struggling reliever Frederick saw its own bullpen woes come to the forefront as Winston-Salem plated seven runs against the maligned pen as the Keys lost the series opener 9-2.
Frederick struggled offensively all night against RHP Charlie Shirek who tossed seven shutout innings.
But in the eighth inning, down 4-0, the Keys bats came to life as C Caleb Joseph, LF David Cash and SS Pedro Florimon put together consecutive hits to bring the Keys within 4-2.
The Keys pen couldn't keep them in it though as Dash 1B Jake Gallagher hit a grand slam with two outs in the eighth inning to put the game on ice.
Keys starter Zach Britton had another solid outing, working 5 and 2/3 innings while allowing two runs. It is the fourth consecutive start in which Britton has allowed two runs or less. He remains the lone Keys starter though without a win.
The Keys try to even up the series Tuesday morning as Frederick and Winston-Salem go back at it at 11:00 a.m. Tim Bascom will start for Frederick with airtime set for 10:40 with the UPS Store Pre-Game Show on the Keys Baseball Network.
Frederick returns home Monday, May 4th to begin a season-long 11-game homestand with Kids Eat Free Monday. The Keys host Winston-Salem at 7:00 p.m. For tickets contact the Keys Box Office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
