December 19, 2021 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Ontario Fury News Release
The Ontario Fury, powered by Ford, broke open a tight game in the fourth quarter, scoring three straight goals to defeat the Chihuahua Savage 6-3 at Toyota Arena in the 2021-22 Major Arena Soccer League opener for both teams.
The Fury were down 2-1 at half, but scored twice in the third quarter to take the lead. Franck Tayou scored his second goal of the game 1:34 into the third period to pull Ontario even. Then, in the final three minutes of the third quarter, Jorge DeLeon won a battle along the boards and found Willie Spurr up the middle, and Spurr made no mistake, scoring his first goal as a member of the Fury to send Ontario into the final quarter with a one-goal lead.
Chihuahua drew even at the start of the fourth, converting its second power play goal of the night, as David Gonzalez pushed the ball off the back of his leg right in front of goalkeeper Chris Toth.
But Ontario scored twice in 17 seconds to regain the lead. Justin Stinson converted a pass from Thiago Goncalves off a free kick to break the deadlock. Then, with the Fury pressing the Savage defense, Robert Palmer got an interception and got the ball to DeLeon, who shot it past Ivan Munoz for the two-goal lead.
Stinson put the final touches on the victory, taking a loose ball and blasting it into the back of the net for the final score.
Ontario's defense was strong all night, limiting Chihuahua to only 10 shots on goal, only four of which came in the first three quarters.
The Fury now head out on the road for their next four games, playing twice this weekend in Lakeland, Fla., against the Florida Tropics. Then Ontario will play back-to-back weekends in January against their Southern California rivals, the San Diego Sockers.
Ontario returns to Toyota Arena at 3 p.m. Jan. 16 for their third-consecutive game against the Sockers. Tickets for the game are on sale now at the Toyota Arena box office and through OntarioFury.com. Fans can take advantage of the Fury's Sunday Funday ticket plan, which includes tickets for all three of the Fury's Sunday home games starting at $65 per ticket for midfield locations.
