O'neill Drives Wings Past Thunder

HARLINGEN, Texas- Starting pitcher Bobby O'Neill went 8 complete innings as the WhiteWings (4-5) beat the Texas Thunder 7-3 (5-4) in the series opener at Harlingen Field Saturday night.

Albert Carpen led off the first inning with a walk, then Aaron Gates connected with a base hit to right field advancing Carpen to third. Then Ryde Rodriguez came to the plate with one out in the inning hitting a deep fly ball to center field scoring Carpen on the sacrifice fly tying the game at one run even.

Justin Juneau then smashed an RBI double scoring Aaron Gates as the RGV took the early 2-1 lead.

RGV's Kevin Lusson led off the second inning with a four pitch walk this would spark a three run rally in the second inning.

With Lusson on third and Troy Zawadzki on first, RGV's Albert Carpen connected with an RBI double scoring Lusson and Zawadzki extending the lead to 5-1. The Wings held on from there as Bobby O'Neill got his second win of the year (2-0). Pitching eight innings on six hits and only allowing three runs.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Texas Thunder tried to rally back as Jacinto Cipriota and Mario Perez came across to score two runs making it a 5-3.

O'Neill settled down after the fifth inning as Mike Wolford came in relief in the ninth inning to seal the deal as RGV won their second game in a row.
