San Angelo Colts News Release

Alexandria, La. --- A pair of first-inning home runs, including a grand slam by first baseman Kyle Nichols set the tone for the Colts, as they defeated the Alexandria Aces, 8-3, Saturday night at Bringhurst Field.

Nichols's grand slam, his second homer of the year, scored third baseman Steve Rinaudo, second baseman Jon Dziomba, and right fielder Mike Mobbs. Left fielder Braden Embry made it back-to-back home runs with a solo shot. It was also Embry's second round-tripper of the season.

Already ahead 5-0, the Colts scored two more runs in the second and another in the third.

Alexandria never fully recovered from its 8-0 deficit, despite a few late comeback attempts. The Aces got on the board in the bottom of the fifth, courtesy of a solo home run by left fielder Austin Newell. It was Newell's first of the year.

The Aces notched two more runs in the seventh, but were then held scoreless through the final two innings.

Colts' starter Demetrius Banks (2-0) earned the win. He allowed a run on three hits and struck out a game-high 10 batters in six innings. Meanwhile, Aces' starter Ryan Waters (0-1) surrendered eight runs on nine hits in just three innings of work for his first loss of the season.

The win improves the Colts to 6-3, while the loss drops Alexandria to 3-6. This four-game series continues Sunday night at Bringhurst Field. First pitch is at 6:05 p.m., and the game can be heard live beginning at 5:50 p.m. on 1260 KKSA.

The Colts are a member of United League Baseball who are in their 14th season. For more information or to purchase season tickets, contact the Colts' front office at 94-COLTS.
