One Run Every Six-And-A-Half Minutes???

Midland RockHounds News Release

Okay, it was closer to six minutes, 45 seconds ... but that's what the RockHounds and San Antonio did Friday night in the first of a four-game series at Security Bank Ballpark. The Missions and 'Hounds combined for 26 runs on 29 hits, with nine walks and three hit batsmen. Two batters reached on errors (the game's two other errors only extended plays) and one man reached on a strikeout compounded by a passed ball.

The totals: Forty-four base runners ... 26 of them scoring ... and all in two hours, fifty-five minutes and in 30-plus mile-per-hour winds.

Mike Olt's two-run home run in the top of the first gave San Antonio the early lead, but it lasted only until the home half of the inning. Ryon Healy's two-run double keyed a three-run rally, and the 'Hounds then sent 10 men to the plate in a six-run second inning highlighted by Wade Kirkland's three-run double. Back-to-back RBI triples from Healy and Matt Chapman pushed the 'Hounds' lead to 11-2 in the third.

Both of the RockHounds' home runs, each a two-run shot, came in the ninth. Chapman's league-leading seventh of the year was a monster line drive that went out just to the right of the 394-foot marker in deepest left-center. J.P. Sportman, fittingly, capped the scoring with a drive to left, his first home run of the season. Sportman finished the night 3-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, two stolen bases and an outfield assist.

The RockHounds

... are 13-8 (6-1 at Security Bank Ballpark and 7-7 on the road) ... have won five straight ... are 2-3 versus San Antonio.

... remain second in the Texas League South, 3.5 games behind Frisco (16-4). The RoughRiders rallied from a 7-3 deficit to defeat Corpus Christi, 8-7, in the Metroplex. Just 21 games into the season, Corpus is seven games back and San Antonio is 8.5 out.

... host the San Antonio Missions (San Diego Padres' Double-A affiliate) Saturday night (7:00), Sunday afternoon (2:00) and Monday evening (6:30), followed by a four-game set with the Corpus Christi Hooks (Houston Astros' Double-A club) next Tuesday through Friday.
