Potomac Nationals News Release
(WOODBRIDGE, VA) The Winston-Salem Dash pounded out nine extra base hits on a Bark in the Park Sunday afternoon in Woodbridge and salvaged the finale of a four-game series with a 15-3 win. Three Dash homers doomed a trio of Potomac pitchers during a span of eight unanswered runs for Winston-Salem after Potomac had taken a first-inning lead. With the victory, the Dash pulled even with the Kinston Indians in the Southern Division standings and won the season series from Potomac, 11-9.
In all of the three innings Erik Davis pitched, the Potomac starter got the first two outs. In each of those three innings, he then ran into trouble. He worked around a two-out walk in the first, but was not as lucky in the second or third.
In the second, Kyle Colligan drew a two-out walk. Luis Sierra hit a towering home run to right field that tied the game at two. In the third inning, Ian Gac hit his 32nd home run with two outs. The Dash then followed with four more consecutive hits, the last of which was a two-run single by Luis Sierra that pushed Winston ahead 5-2.
Trevor Holder then came on to get the last out of the third. But he, too, ran into trouble in the fourth. Tyler Saladino hit a homer to open the inning to make it 6-2; it was his fourth extra-base hit of the series and capped a three-game stint in which he went seven-for-12 with an RBI and three runs.
In the fifth inning, the Dash kept the extra-base hits coming. A one out double by Kyle Colligan became a run when Dan Wagner tripled to left field and ended Holder's day. Rob Wort then came in and immediately allowed a triple to right field off the bat of Saladino that scored Wagner and made it 8-2 Winston.
A 50-minute delay paused the game after the sixth inning, but the Dash picked up with more offense when the game resumed. Saladino tripled home Wagner in the seventh; it was his second triple on a day in which he went four-for-five and fell a double short of the cycle.
Nick Ciolli's sacrifice fly to right field in the eighth inning scored another run and made it 10-3 Dash. Ciolli made his biggest stamp on the game defensively: he made two headlong diving grabs in right field to rob Sandy Leon and Zach Walters of extra base hits.
Winston strung together five hits after a leadoff walk in the ninth against Mitchell Clegg to score five more runs and cap the scoring in a 15-3 rout.
After an off day Monday, Potomac welcomes the Wilmington Blue Rocks to Woodbridge for a three- game series. Sammy Solis takes the mound at 7:05 P.M.
