Frederick Keys News Release
The Keys fell behind early and could not come back as they dropped a lopsided 12-1 decision at the hands of the Lynchburg Hillcats on Sunday evening. The ballgame was played a day after the face of Lynchburg baseball Calvin Falwell, for whom the field is named after passed away at the age of 91.
Frederick fell behind from the get-go as Lynchburg plated three first inning runs. Hillcats SS Andrelton Simmons doubled with one down and scored on CF Todd Cunningham's RBI-single. 1B Joey Terdoslavich doubled home Cunningham and then scored with two-outs when DH Christian Bethancourt lobbed a single to left field.
Lynchburg would add three more runs in the second inning and then ran away with a six-run sixth inning. Frederick would pitch their first position player of the season when C Kyle Moore entered in the eighth inning and dealt a scoreless frame.
Many at the ballpark were thinking of Falwell though who was the man who brought baseball to the Hill City in 1966. Falwell was the Chairman of the Board for Lynchburg Baseball Corporation. He was a senior member of the Carolina League Board of Directors and the League's Executive Committee. In 2004 the field at City Stadium was named Calvin Falwell Field.
On the day after his passing, above his mane enscribed on the center field wall hung the American flag at half staff as it will be for all remaining Hillcats home games in 2011.
With the defeat, Frederick loses a season series for the first time this year as the Hillcats grabbed 11 of the team's 20 meetings. The Keys have dropped eight of the last ten season series to Lynchburg.
Frederick will return home for its final regular season homestand of 2011 Monday, August 22nd at 7:00 p.m. LHP Jake Pettit will look to keep his unblemished record alive as coverage will begin 20-minutes prior to first pitch on 1450-AM The Source and wthu.org.
It will be the final Kids Eat Free Monday of 2011! Also Playoff tickets are currently available for the Keys attempted run at the Mills Cup. For tickets contact the Keys at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
