August 21, 2011 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Kinston Indians News Release
The Kinston Indians worked from behind and leaned on the bullpen to turn the tide in Myrtle Beach for an 8-7 Sunday victory.
A 5-1 advantage came crumbling down in the third inning as the Pelicans scored five runs on four hits, taking advantage of two walks to take the lead and chase Kinston starter Clayton Cook. Chris Jones came on to close the inning out and retired the only two men he faced in the frame.
Tyler Holt and Delvi Cid both reached to start the fourth and came home on a balk and a throwing error from Pelicans short stop Jimmy Swift. The lead did not last long.
Jared Hoying blasted his second of three doubles to start the home half of the fourth inning. One batter out in to the inning came home on Jared Prince's single. It tied the contest at 7 runs apiece.
With Toru Murata in the midst of a gem relief appearance Jesus Aguilar gave Kinston the lead for good with his third blast of the series. Aguilar launched his fourth Carolina League home run to left field in Majestic fashion.
Murata worked two and two thirds innings to grasp his second win of the season. Murata's active scoreless streak is now at 22 and two thirds inning, Kinston's longest of the season dating to May 15th. Preston Guilmet added four outs for his league best 33rd save.
The win secured a series split with the Pelicans and kept the K-Tribe half a game up in the Southern Divisions second half. At three hours and 40 minutes long, Sunday's contest was the longest road game for the Indians this season.
Four games in Frederick Maryland start Monday at 7:00 pm.
