Hershey Bears News Release

The HERSHEY BEARS Hockey Club finished its 74th regular season in the AHL with setbacks to Portland, Manchester, and Worcester over the weekend. On Friday in Maine, Kyle Greentree scored shorthanded, David Civitarese (goal) and Francis Verreault (assist) tallied their first professional points, Mike Carman lit the lamp and Ryan Potulny buried another power-play marker. The Pirates, however, picked up six goals en route to their 6-4 victory. On Saturday afternoon in Manchester, the Monarchs held the BEARS to 20 shots on goal, with netminder Jeff Zatkoff turning aside all but Potulny's 33rd goal of the season. Meanwhile five different Manchester players found the back of the HERSHEY net for a 5-1 decision. Finally on Sunday in Worcester, Barry Almeida's first professional goal and Andrew Carroll's first goal of the season gave the BEARS a 2-1 lead after one, but Matt Irwin and Tim Kennedy were able to spoil an otherwise solid first start by Alaska-Fairbanks product Scott Greenham en route to a 3-2 win. The BEARS now begin the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals with Games One and Two at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Friday and Saturday. The series returns to GIANT Center on Wednesday, April 25 at 7:00 PM.

Bourque Racks `Em Up:

AHL First Team All-Star Chris Bourque won the John B. Sollenberger trophy as the AHL's leading scorer with his 93 points (27 goals, 66 assists). In BEARS history, Bourque ranks ninth in all-time assists (262), tied for 14th in all-time points (393) and 25th in all-time games played (392).

Potulny Finishes Strong:

C Ryan Potulny finished as the BEARS leading goal scorer (33), a total that tied for third overall in the AHL. His 19 power-play goals finished tops in the league.

Firsts in the Last Game:

Winger Barry Almeida, fresh off of his second NCAA Championship with Boston College, scored his first AHL goal Sunday in Worcester - not far from his home town of Springfield. C Andrew Carroll also tallied his first goal of the season in the 76th and final game of 2011-12.

Potent PP:

The BEARS' power play finished the season exactly where it started: ranked first in the AHL (91/357=25.5%), and nearly four full percentage points above the second-ranked team.
