Brooklyn Cyclones News Release

Brooklyn, NY, August 16, 2011 - In 2003, a 15-year-old high school student from Howard Beach named Pia Toscano performed "The Star Spangled Banner" at MCU Park in one of the first public performances of her life. Fast forward eight years and that young girl has now become a household name after wowing fans on Season 10 of American Idol. On Monday, August 22nd, Pia returns where it all began to MCU Park in Coney Island.

Just like those former Brooklyn Cyclones players who have gone on to greater fame in the big leagues, the team will honor the now 22-year-old singer's achievements in a ceremony prior to its 7:00 PM game against the Tri-City Valley Cats. Among the festivities, Pia will be on the field taking batting practice and will also toss out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the game.

"Since we started in 2001, we've had a lot of stars begin their careers here, but they have all been stars on the baseball diamond," said Cyclones General Manager Steve Cohen. "As proud as we are to say that guys like Ike Davis started their baseball careers here, we are just as proud to say that Pia Toscano started her singing career here, and is just as much a part of the Brooklyn Cyclones family."

Tickets for the August 22nd game are available by phone at 718-507-TIXX, online at brooklyncyclones.com or by visiting the MCU Park box office. You can also catch Pia on the American Idols Live! Tour this summer when it comes to the New York area on August 15th at the Prudential Center or August 23rd & 24th at the Nassau Coliseum. For more information, please visit AmericanIdol.com.

The Brooklyn Cyclones are a Short-Season Class A affiliate of the New York Mets. The Cyclones play at MCU Park, in the heart of Coney Island. Last year, the team led the New York-Penn League in attendance for the 10th consecutive season, and has drawn nearly three million total fans. The Cyclones have also advanced to the postseason seven times, winning a league championship in 2001 and a total of five McNamara Division titles.
