LOWELL, Mass. - Three Jamestown Jammers helped lift the National League All-Stars past the American League All-Stars, 7-3, in the seventh annual New York-Pennsylvania League All-Star Game at LeLacheur Park Tuesday night.
Pitchers Josh Hodges and Chase Wier and inï¬Âelder Terrence Dayleg each played a pivotal part in the game as the National League All-Stars used a pair of big innings to earn the victory and make the all-time series mark 4-3 in favor of the American League.
After the National League scored four runs in the top of the second inning, Josh Hodges came on as a reliever.
The 6-7 righty did not disappoint in his all-star debut. He fanned the ï¬Ârst batter he faced before giving up a single; however, he responded by inducing a double play to end the threat and complete a scoreless inning before getting pulled.
Dayleg completed the back end of that twin killing and reached base once in three plate appearances. He struck out in the ï¬Ârst and ï¬âew out to center in the third before walking in his ï¬Ânal at bat.
The American League All-Stars chipped away at the advantage with two runs in the third and one in the sixth before Wier entered in the seventh inning.
The Stephen F. Austin product, who only started pitching in February, made quick work of the three batters he faced with a pop out and a pair of ground outs to earn a hold.
In the ninth inning, the National League tacked on three more runs to put the game of reach.
State College's Samuel Gonzalez was named the Most Valuable Player for his two-run double and run scored in the second, while Tri-City's Kyle Hallock got the start and earned the win for the National League after striking out two in a scoreless ï¬Ârst inning.
Brent Keys, who was also named an All-Star from the Jammers, did not play in the game after coming off the disabled list on Sunday. He and the rest of the Jammers will meet up with the All- Stars in Brooklyn tonight as the team begins it's 12-game road trip against the Cyclones.
