Omaha Beef Knock Off Undefeated Storm 41-37, Host Playoff Game

June 18, 2011 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Omaha Beef News Release

Just consider the Omaha BEEF the official streak-killers for the Sioux Falls Storm. This past weekend the underdog BEEF (9-5) gave the Storm (13-1) all they could handle with a stifling defense and opportunistic offense, coming away with a 41-37 victory and ruining the Storms 13-game winning streak.

The Storm had not surrender an official sack all year, but by the end of the night they were sacked 3 times and tackled for losses 5 times. The BEEFense forced a Storm kick with 19 seconds to play after their third sack of the game, which proved to be crucial as the kick did not make it out of bounds. Courtney Grixby was able to field the ball at the back of the endzone, then lateral it to Diezeas Calbert who took it the distance for the game winning score as time expired (their first lead of the game).

In the first quarter the BEEF trailed by 18 points, but fought back to within 7 at half. The BEEF were able to tie the game early in the third quarter, but the Storm once again jumped ahead and led by two touchdowns. The BEEFense held tough from then on out and held the Storm scoreless in the fourth quarter, chipping away at the their lead until the final play.

BEEF QB James McNear was named Offensive Player of the Week after the win. McNear completed 19 of 30 passes for 195 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions. He also rushed 12 times for 76 yards and another score.

Coming into the game the Storm were on track to another undefeated campaign, similar to their 2006 and 2007 seasons. The BEEF had other ideas however and once again halted their undefeated streak just as they did back in 2008 when the Storm hadn't lost in over 2 years.

Thank to the BEEF's win over the Storm, they play host to a first round home playoff game tonight at the Slaughterhouse against the visiting Bloomington Exteme (9-5). The BEEF look to get their first playoff win since 2004, despite making the post season for 12 straight years.

The BEEF are celebrating their 12th year of Professional Indoor Football in Omaha, Nebraska. The BEEF have made the playoffs in each of their 12 years of existence, an indoor football record. All home games kick off at 7:05pm at "The Slaughterhouse" - Omaha Civic Auditorium. The Omaha Beef are a member of the Indoor Football League, the premier indoor football league in America. The Omaha Beef are committed to making a positive difference in the Omaha area through football, fun, and community service.
