UIF PLAY-OFF PICUTRE TAKING SHAPE

United Indoor Football is pleased to announce the scheduled dates for the 2005 play-offs. Eight teams will participate in the first round of the playoffs, held on the weekend of July 30. Two semi-final contests are scheduled for the weekend of August 6. And the first-ever UIF championship game will be held on the weekend of August 13.

Eight teams will be featured in the UIF's inaugural season play-offs. The eight qualifying teams will be seeded according to overall winning percentage. The number one seed will be matched up against the number eight seed, two with seven, three with six, and four with five. The team with the best winning percentage in each contest will be scheduled to host in each round.

Tie-breakers will be applied in the following order: 1.) overall winning percentage, 2.) head-to-head record, 3.) average point differential per game, 4.) average points scored per game, 5.) average points allowed per game, and 6.) coin flip.

United Indoor Football has set the trade deadline for July 11 at 5:00 p.m. CT. All trades must be submitted and approved by then, and no trades will be allowed after the deadline. The roster deadline for play-off qualifying teams is Thursday, July 15, at 5:00 p.m. CT. All teams will be set with protected 30-man rosters. No players may be added to team rosters following the July 15 deadline.

If the play-offs started today, the Midwest Division champion Fort Wayne Freedom (11-2) would earn the top seed. The North Division champion Sioux City Bandits (11-2) would be given the second seed as the Freedom defeated the Bandits earlier this season. The third seed would be the South Division champion Lexington Horsemen (9-4). The forth seed is projected to be the Omaha Beef (7-5). The Ohio Valley Greyhounds (6-5) would be awarded the fifth seed. The sixth seed would be the Sioux Falls Storm (7-6). The Evansville Bluecats (6-6) would be the seventh seed. The final and eight seed would go to the Tennessee Valley Raptors (4-8). FOUR KEY DIVISION MATCH-UPS KICKED-OFF WEEK 15

Four exciting division match-ups took place in Week 15 of the 2005 season. .

In a South Division match-up on Friday, June 24, the Evansville Bluecats defeated the host Tupelo FireAnts 39-32 in the BancorpSouth Center. The game was a re-match from April 7, when the FireAnts defeated the Bluecats 61-51 in Tupelo. The Bluecats snapped a four-game losing streak and won for the first time on the road this year, while the FireAnts have dropped five of their last six games. The FireAnts struck first, as quarterback Tommy Miller connected with Buster Browne on a 10-yard pass completion mid-way through the opening quarter. That would be the only touchdown pass for Miller in the game, as he suffered a neck injury mid-way through the first quarter. With four and half minutes remaining in the first quarter, Evansville quarterback Ramon Robinson threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Matt Kent. The extra point was good and the Bluecats took a 7-6 lead. Five minutes into the second quarter, Robinson connected with wide receiver Gerald Clark on a 30-yard scoring pass to increase the Bluecats lead to 14-6. The FireAnts answered two minutes later with a 38-yard pass from back-up quarterback Cecil Lester to wide receiver Chris Edwards, cutting the lead to two at 14-12. With a minute and a half remaining in the first half, the Bluecats added six points on a 28-yard pass from Robinson to wide receiver Byron Curtis, making it 20-12 after 30 minutes. Thirty seconds into the third quarter, Robinson connected with runningback/receiver Otis Shannon to give the Bluecats a 26-12 advantage. Two minutes later, Lester connected with Terrell Sutton on a 37-yard touchdown pass for the FireAnts, cutting the lead to 26-19. With four minutes left in the third quarter, Robinson and Curtis hooked up once again, this time on a 30-yard pass, to give the Bluecats a 33-19 lead. Tupelo scored mid-way through the final quarter with a 13-yard pass from Lester to Sutton, cutting the lead to 33-25. The Bluecats quickly answered, as Shannon returned the kick-off 50-yards to give Evansville a 39-25 cushion. The final score of the game came on a four-yard pass from Tupelo's Lester to Sutton with two minutes left in the contest. The Evansville defense played well, recording five sacks and an interception. Robinson was 10-17 passing for 170 yards with five touchdowns for the Bluecats. Curtis logged two touchdowns on five catches for 79 yards. Shannon logged a touchdown on two catches for 25 yards while recording six carries for 26 yards and three kick returns for 86 yards with a touchdown. For the FireAnts, Lester was 13-27 passing for 155 yards with four touchdowns. He also gained 43 yards on eight carries. Sutton caught three passes, all for touchdowns, for 54 yards. Evansville and Head Coach Ollie Guidry improved to 6-6 with the victory, while Tupelo and Head Coach John Fourcade fell to 3-10 on the season. The two teams will meet once again next week as Evansville will host the FireAnts at Roberts Stadium. .

On Saturday, June 25, the Sioux Falls Storm entertained North Division and Interstate 29 rival Sioux City Bandits in a re-match from a game held on April 16 in Sioux Falls Arena when the Bandits came from behind to defeat the Storm 50-43. Saturday, it was the Storm who tried to come from behind but came up short in a 38-34 loss. The Storm suffered its third straight loss and third consecutive at home, while the Bandits have won five straight contests and clinched the North Division championship. The Bandits were held well below their average of 52.8 points per game, but it didn't matter as the Sioux City defense picked up the slack. The Bandits logged two sacks, three interceptions, a fumble recovery, and allowed just 164 yards of net offense for the Storm. Sioux City struck first, as runningback Fred Jackson scored on a two-yard run five and a half minutes into the contest. The Storm quickly answered on the ensuing possession, scoring on a three-yard scamper by runningback Jerry Davis. Kicker Adam Hicks missed the extra point attempt, and the Bandits held onto a slim 7-6 margin. After a missed field goal by Sioux City on the next drive, the Storm drove all the way to the five-yard line before an interception by defensiveback Deron Rush. The Bandits then struck again on the last play of the first quarter on a 30-yard pass from quarterback Jarrod DeGeorgia to Jackson. Mid-way through the second quarter, DeGeorgia reached the end zone on a one-yard keeper to increase the Bandit's lead to 20-6. The last points of the first half came on a 41-yard field goal by Hicks to cut the Bandits lead to 20-9 at the break. Four and half minutes into the second half, DeGeorgia connected with wide receiver Dave Perrigo on a 10-yard touchdown pass to give the Bandits a 26-9 cushion. Sioux Falls runningback James Jones then scored on a one-yard run, and Hicks missed the extra point attempt to bring the Storm within nine at 26-15. Sioux City's Cody Butler missed a 44-yard field goal on the ensuing possession, and the Storm took advantage as they scored on their next possession. Quarterback Rob Fangan connected with wide receiver Casey Veenhof on a 23-yard pass to cut the Bandits lead to four at 26-22. The Bandits then increased their lead with a 14-yard run by Jackson, but the extra point attempt by Butler was blocked and returned for two points by Sioux Falls' defensive lineman Austin Flyger, giving the Bandits a 32-24 advantage with 15 minutes left. In the forth quarter, Sioux Falls came storming back. Fangan connected with wide receiver Leon Hall with a 19-yard pass, cutting the Bandits lead to one at 32-31 with 14 minutes left to play. Sioux City reached the end zone on a short run by Ken Horton, but Butler's extra point attempt was again blocked, making the score 38-31 with just over 12 minutes left in the contest. With six minutes remaining, Hicks connected on a 32-yard field goal attempt to pull the Storm within four at 38-34. On Sioux City's next possession, DeGeorgia hit wide receiver Johnny Ostermeyer at the 24-yard line, but the pass was fumbled and Sioux Falls defensiveback Tyrone Rhone recovered the loose ball. On the next drive, Fangan was sacked by Sioux City defensive lineman Anthony Thomas on a third-down play. Hicks then missed a 60-yard field goal, which was blocked and returned to the 14-yard line by Sioux City's Willie Simmons. The Storm defense then swarmed the Bandits and created a turnover on downs at the Sioux Falls two-yard line with 22 seconds remaining. Fangan then connected with Jones on two different pass plays to get the Storm to the 19-yard line. Fangan then went for the victory, airing a 20-yard pass as a crowd of 4,800 held their breaths. Sioux City defensive back Corey Mayes was in the perfect position in front of the receiver, and hauled in the interception to seal a Bandits win. For the Bandits, DeGeorgia was 16-23 passing for 202 yards with three touchdowns. DeGeorgia also logged 16 yards on five carries with a touchdown. Jackson, the UIF's leading runningback, recorded 23 carries for 79 yards with two touchdowns. He also caught three passes for 64 yards and a touchdown. Perrigo was credited with four receptions for 45 yards with a touchdown, and Horton scored once on six catches for 48 yards. Sioux City defensive lineman Jesse Wavrunek logged three tackles, four assisted tackles, and a sack. Defensiveback Patrick Jackson recorded five solo tackles and three assisted tackles, while linebacker Adam Lloyd was credited with three solo tackles and three assisted tackles for the Bandits. Fangan was 11-21 passing for 120 yards with two touchdowns for the Storm. Flyger logged four solo tackles and five assisted tackles for Sioux Falls, while Storm linebacker Chris Eads recorded five solo tackles and five assisted tackles. The North Division-leading Bandits and Head Coach Jose Jefferson improved to 11-2 with the victory, while the Storm and Head Coach Kurtiss Riggs fell to 7-6 on the season.

Also on Saturday, the Fort Wayne Freedom defeated the Peoria Rough Riders 56-35 in a Midwest Division contest in the Peoria Civic Center/Carver Arena. The Freedom snapped a two-game losing streak with the victory. Fort Wayne quarterback Bill Skelton was 13-23 passing for 201 yards with three touchdowns. Runningback Rocky Harvey reached the end zone three times on 17 carries for 93 yards for the Freedom. Fort Wayne wider receiver Jeremy Dutcher scored twice on seven catches for 98 yards, while receivers Sr Day Overton and Luther Stroder recorded a touchdown apiece. Luther gained 47 yards on three catches. Peoria quarterback Walter Church was 10-20 passing for 126 yards with two touchdowns. The Freedom and Head Coach Matt Land improved to 11-2 on the year, while the Rough Riders and Head Coach Bruce Cowdrey fell to 4-9 on the season.

In the final contest of Week 15, the Lexington Horsemen defeated the visiting Tennessee Valley Raptors 59-35 in a key South Division game in Rupp Arena. Lexington leads the South Division, while Tennessee Valley is currently third behind second-place Evansville. The Raptors failed to pull within a half game of the Bluecats. Tennessee Valley quarterback Chris Gunn was 22-41 passing for 271 yards with five touchdowns. Wide receiver Nicholas Wells gained 97 yards on three catches with three touchdowns for the Raptors. Tennessee Valley wide receiver Luke McArdle scored once on eight catches for 86 yards, and Chesaurae Rhodes scored once on four catches for 60 yards.
