Sioux Falls Storm News Release
The Sioux Falls Storm of United Indoor Football (UIF) is pleased to announce that on Saturday, July 2, with a 7:05 PM kickoff, the Storm will be back in the "Storm Shelter" for the second week in a row as they welcome in the Omaha Beef. Sioux Falls has split with Omaha on the season, 1-1. This game may be the one of deciding factors as to who will receive the fourth seed going into the 2005 UIF play-offs. Currently Omaha sits in the fourth spot with a 6-5 record and Sioux Falls would have the sixth seed with their 7-6 record. Sioux Falls lost a hard fought battle last weekend in the Sioux Falls Arena, 34-38, to the Sioux City Bandits. Omaha is coming off a BYE week and won their last game back on June 18, against the Black Hills Red Dogs, 51-37.
Sioux Falls was led by quarterback, Rob Fagnan, who gave a valiant effort at the end of the game after the Storm defense made an impressive stand on their own 1 yard line and gave the Storm a chance to win the game with 22 seconds and 49 yards to go. Fagnan last pass was thrown into the end zone for the last play of the game, only to fall into the hands of Bandits defensive back, Patrick Jackson. Fagnan finished the night by completing 11 of his 21 passes for a total of 120 yards and two touchdowns. James Jones had six receptions for 57 yards and also had five kick returns for a total of 120 yards. Casey Veenhof had two receptions for 29 yards and one amazing touchdown catch for 23 yards that had Veenhof flying over the back of the wall in the end zone, and unfortunately breaking his toe. Casey will not suit for the game against the Beef. Jerry Davis led the Storm in rushing with 37 yards and one TD from 14 carries. On the defensive side of the ball, the Storm was led by linebacker, Chris Eads, who had five solo tackles and five assisted. Trice Crump had five solos and two assisted with one breakup, and Austin Flyger chipped in with four solos and five assisted.
The Storm's defensive line will have to stop the Beef rush, as they toppled the Red Dogs by rushing for 182 yards on 41 carries and 3 touchdowns as a team. Omaha was led by running back, Rod Malone, who had 14 carries for 79 yards and two touchdowns. Jason Mitchell and James Johnson had 56 and 54 yards rushing. Quarterback, John McMenamin threw for 103 yards by completing 10 of his 16 throws and also aired out two touchdowns. Wide receiver, Jason Mitchell had three receptions for 44 yards and both of McMenamin's TD throws. Omaha's defense was led by Henry Whitehead who had four solo tackles.
Tonight's game will be themed "Ladies Night," with the first 1,000 woman through the door receiving a free flower courtesy of tonight's game sponsor, Viereck Commercial Real Estate. Kickoff will be at 7:05 PM with doors opening at 6:00 PM. If you are unable to attend the night's game, you can hear the voice of the Storm, Rich Roste, play-by-play on KELO 1320 AM with the pre-game beginning at 6:45 PM. The Storm will be back in the "Storm Shelter," on July 9, for the final regular season home game of the season to take on the Black Hills Red Dogs. Tickets are still available through Ticketmaster or stop by the Arena Box Office.
