Omaha Beef News Release

The Omaha Beef rained all over the Sioux Falls Storm Football team, Saturday, March 13, 2004, at the Omaha Civic Auditorium in front of 4,491 screaming fans. When the Beef were done with the Sioux Falls team they had turned them into a light drizzle.

The Sioux Falls Storm won the toss and elected to receive. The Omaha Beef defense swarmed on the South Dakota team pushed the Storm back for a 12-yard loss on the second play of the game. The Storm tried gallantly on several occasions to set up a hurricane by marching down the Astroturf to score, but the Beef soaked up any attempt.

With a gale on the horizon, the Beefs' defensive team came to the forefront again and again to pound the Storms' feeble attempt into the dirt. The Beef up a storm warning of their own and forced a Storm to fumble on the third play of the game only to have them recover their own lost pigskin on the 27-yard line.

The Storm's Kicker, Adam Hicks broke the stalemate to score 3 points from about the 45-yard line and started the scoring with 12:06 left in the 1st quarter. The Storm picked up their only three-pointer of the half and putting them on top by a score of 3-0.

With 10:31 left in the quarter, Beef's Quarterback, Troy Travis hit our Wide Receiver, Tory Veland in the end zone to bring the home team to the lead by 4. Score 7-3 in favor of the Beef.

The Omaha Beef's defense was fired-up as they pushed with everything they had to foil the Storm's scoring effort turning them into our own meat grinders. The defense charge was led by the Beef‘s terrible trio: Defensive Linemen, Damien Bauman, Matt Swanson, and Bryan Eakin.

Beefs' Defensive Linemen, Cody Beguin, and Richard Johnson fought diligently to help battle their foes and continue to ward off any attempts the South Dakota team had of scoring. Ending the 1st Quarter the Beef roasted the Storm by 7-3.

The second quarter was a war of wills as the pigskin traveled up and down the field without any effect except to shorten tempers and light the fuse under the turf warriors from both teams.

With 8:11 left before the half, Beefs' Running Back, James Johnson and the Storms' Linebacker, Mark Blackburn were ejected for personal fouls as they decided to take matters into their own hands and try to slug-it-out on the turf.

With 5:42 left before the half, Beefs' Kicker, Chace Long put it up and through the uprights from 21 yards out to make the score 10-3 to keep the Beef in the lead.

With 2:30 left in the second quarter, Beefs' Wide Receiver, Tory Veland, snagged a hard, fast bullet from out of nowhere and bring the ball back to the home team by a quick-handed interception.

It wasn't until these gridiron gladiators had less than a minute left in the 2nd quarter that Beefs' Running Back, Kevin Brown, ran it in from 28 yards out to score and bring the Beefs' lead to 16-3. With his usual precision, Beefs' Kicker, Chace Long snagged another quick point to make the score 17-3 and end this fierce war before the half.

The start of the second half held no surprises and everything looked like clear sailing until the Beefs' Bryan Eakin ripped a hard thrown shot from the air to intercept one from six yards out and take it in to score 6 big ones making the score 23-3 in favor of the Beef. The accuracy and skill of Kicker, Chace Long again became apparent as he followed the six points up with an extra one to make the score 24-3 with the Beef still controlling the field.

With only seven minutes left in the third quarter, Sioux City's Kicker, Adam Hicks put it up from 42-yards out to give the Storm an extra three points and try to help them save face. The score keeps the Beef in the lead by 18 points. 24-6

There was only 4:26 left in the third quarter when the hard-kicking style of Beefs' Kicker, Chace Long again slammed a long 54-yard boot to make the score 27-6.

The end of the third quarter saw the Beef basking in sunshine as they led the Storm 27-6.

The fourth quarter was another minor flood for the South Dakota team as they tried boldly to score with no success until number 57, Wes Clubb, for the Storm blocked a kick and turned it into two quick points for the South Dakota team. The unexpected two points made the score 27-8 still in favor of the Beef.

With the clock showing only 6:30 left in this mudslide, the Beefs' Tory Veland intercepted a hard, long pass from the 14-yard line to take it 36-yards into the end zone and make the score 33-8. Kicker, Chace Long followed in quick pursuit and again snagged another one-pointer to bring the score to 34-8 with the Beef still controlling the field, the game, and any hope the Storm had of overcoming the Omaha Beef.

The Beef dampened every attempt the South Dakota team had of make this a high-scoring game.

With only 3:06 left in the game the Storms' Quarterback, Casey Veenhof, faked a reverse and trotted in from only one yard out to score and make bring the standings to 34-14 giving the Storm the only touchdown of the night. The Storm tried in vain to score the extra two-points after their touchdown to have their efforts smashed by an ever-vigilant Beef defense.

Feeling the sting of a mild shower the Beef decided to do a little rain dance of their own and caused a near flood with only 1:23 left in the game as Damien Bauman took it in on the sideline to add six and make the score 40-14. Again, Kicker, Chace Long put it up and through the uprights for the extra-point and dried up any chance the Storm had of surviving this squall. The final score was 41-14 with the Beef winning and barley realizing there had been a storm on the horizon.
