Olympic Gold Medalist Lindsay Tarpley to Highlight Whitecaps' Soccer Night

Two-time Olympic Gold medalist and current Women's Professional Soccer star Lindsay Tarpley is scheduled to appear at Soccer Night presented by West Michigan Glass Block on Monday, August 16, as the Whitecaps take on the South Bend Silver Hawks at 7 p.m.

Tarpley will kick out the first pitch and sign autographs during the game. She will also hold a private meet-and-greet before the game with all soccer teams in attendance. Also on hand will be the reigning NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Champion Grand Valley State University Lakers.

A Kalamazoo native, 26-year-old Tarpley was a High School All-American soccer player at Portage Central High School. She then attended the University of North Carolina, where she was an All-American and led the Tar Heels to the NCAA Championship in 2003. She has been a member of the U.S. Women's National Team for six years and won gold medals in both the 2004 Athens Olympics and the 2008 Beijing Olympics. For the past two seasons she has played in the Women's Professional Soccer League, first for the Chicago Red Stars in 2009 and currently for the Boston Breakers.

Soccer teams coming as a group can purchase discounted tickets to the game and participate in a pre-game barbeque, the private meet-and-greet with Tarpley and a meet-and-greet with the Grand Valley Lakers soccer team. Tickets for all remaining home games are on sale now and can be purchased by visiting whitecapsbaseball.com, by calling the Whitecaps front office at 616-784-4131, or in person at the Fifth Third Ballpark box office (open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays (as well as during games). Ticket prices are $13.00 for premium box seats, $11.00 for box seats, $9.50 for reserved seats including the Alpine Collision Center Family Section, and $5.00 for McCain Foods Lawn seating. Children 2 and under are free. Gates for most games open one hour before gametime; gates for Friday games open one hour and 15 minutes before gametime.
