July 27, 2010 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release

Cedar Rapids, IA - A year and a month after pitching his last game with the Kernels, RHP Mike Kohn made his Major League debut with the LA Angels against the Boston Red Sox on Monday night. Kohn is certainly one of the fastest, if not THE fastest, to play in Cedar Rapids and then in the majors in one season.

In last night's game, he allowed two runs on two hits, including a double to J.D. Drew, and faced four batters in 0.1 IP. Kohn is the 31st former Cedar Rapids player to appear in a Major League game during the 2010 season. Over 350 players played minor league baseball in Cedar Rapids and went on to play in the Majors. Twelve former Kernels are currently on the Angels' active roster.

Kohn made 28 relief appearances for the Kernels in 2009 with a 4-1 record, 2.19 ERA and six saves and pitched his last game on June 27 before being promoted to Rancho Cucamonga. He began 2010 at double-A Arkansas before being promoted to triple-A Salt Lake where in 26 games he had a 3-2 record, 1.86 ERA and eight saves.

The Kernels continue a nine-game road trip on Wednesday against the Clinton LumberKings at 7:00 pm, returning to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday, July 31st. Tickets may be purchased on-line at www.kernels.com, or by calling the Kernels Ticket Office at 896-7560. Ticket office hours are 10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, and 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday.
