LONG BEACH, Calif. (Nov. 1, 2004) - The American Basketball Association (ABA) Long Beach Jam signed center Olden Polynice today. Polynice will serve as a player/coach.

A 17-year NBA veteran, Polynice entered the league in 1987 with the Seattle Supersonics as the eighth overall pick by the Chicago Bulls and was traded for the draft rights to Scottie Pippen. During Polynice's best years in the NBA, he averaged a double-double, including career highs in points (13.1) and rebounds (12.3) per game during the 1993-94 season with the Detroit Pistons. Always dependable in the front court, Polynice averaged 7.8 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.

As a freshman, Polynice started on the University of Virginia team that made the NCAA Final Four in 1984. A native if Haiti, Polynice established the "Helping Out Our People" Foundation, which provides aid to the less fortunate in both the U.S. and Haiti.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
