Seattle Reign FC News Release
SEATTLE, WA. - OL Reign today announced that it has loaned defender Jimena López for an agreed upon loan fee to UMF Selfoss in the Úrvalsdeild Kvenna, the top-tier women's football league in Iceland, through June 2023. Per league and club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"Jimena has been an amazing teammate for our club, and we're excited for her to embrace this new opportunity in Iceland," said head coach Laura Harvey. "As a coaching staff, we're confident that her quality and skills will develop through her experience playing in another highly competitive league."
López was originally selected by OL Reign with the 28th overall pick in the 2021 NWSL College Draft but elected to start her professional career with Spanish side SD Eibar in the Spanish Primera División. After playing 16 matches with SD Eibar and contributing one goal for the club, Lopez joined OL Reign in June 2021.
The Mexico City native signed a three-year contract with OL Reign, with an additional one-year option. López has appeared in nine regular season matches for the Reign across two seasons, including four starts. The defender has tallied 12 clearances, 12 interceptions and eight tackles won across her regular season appearances.
López also appeared in four Challenge Cup matches for OL Reign, adding an additional nine clearances and registering one shot on target. López had a standout performance in the 2022 edition of The Women's Cup, earning the assist on Jordyn Huitema's tournament-winning goal.
