TODAY'S OPPONENT: The Round Rock Express are the Triple-A affiliate of the Houston Astros. Last season, the Express finished first in the American South with a record of 85-59.
VS. ROUND ROCK: The RedHawks won three of four games April 21-24 at The Dell Diamond. The Hawks won the first three games of the series. Last season at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark, the Express won five of eight games.
TODAY'S GAME: This is game 60 of the season. It's the second game of a four-game series and the sixth of 16 meetings between Oklahoma and Round Rock this season.
LAST GAME: RedHawks won the first game of a series for the 12th time this season with a 12-5 win against Round Rock. Every RedHawk had at least one hit and eight had at least two hits as they racked up 20 hits as team. Mike Wood won for the fourth time this season by pitching six innings, allowing one run on two hits.
ROSTER MOVES: Yesterday, IF Drew Meyer was placed on the DL. RHP Scott Feldman was recalled by Texas, and LHP John Rheinecker was optioned back to Texas. Today, RHP Mike Bumstead was activated off of the DL, and RHP Ezequiel Astacio was placed on the DL with elbow soreness.
PITCHING MATCHUP: Mark Redman makes his third start of the season for the RedHawks. Redman won Sunday against Colorado Springs, allowing two runs on nine hits in six innings of work. Jared Gothreaux will pitch for the Express. Gothreaux took a no-decision April 21 against the RedHawks, allowing four hits in five scoreless innings.
STARTERS LOOKING GOOD: The RedHawks have had quality starting pitching during this homestand. In the nine games at The Brick, the starters are 4-1 with six quality starts and a 1.78 ERA in 50.2 innings pitched. For the season, the starters are 17-21 with a 5.09 ERA.
GOLDRUSH: Nate Gold is the PCL's Offenisve Player of the Week after hitting .407 (11-27) with two doubles, four homers and 14 RBIs in seven games. On Sunday, Gold had a big day going 5-for-5 with two doubles, two homers, seven RBIs and five runs scored. Gold lacked just a triple for the cylce. He became the first RedHawk to have a multi-homer game since Adam Hyzdu did it Aug. 12 of last season. The seven RBIs are the most in a game for a RedHawk since Adrian Gonzalez did it 6/22/04 at Albuquerque. The five hits and five runs are the most for a RedHawk in a game this season. Over the last nine games, Gold is hitting .447 (17-38) with four homers and 19 RBIs.
HOT BOTTS: Botts continues to swing a hot bat after going 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored last night. Botts is hitting .383 with 31 RBIs over his last 35 games. For the season, Botts is hitting .307 with four home runs and a 45 RBIs. Botts is fourth in the PCL with 45 RBIs, first with 22 doubles and fourth with a .409 on-base percentage.
STREAKING: The RedHawks come into tonight on a season-high 5-game winning streak. Freddy Guzman brings a personal season-high 10-game hitting streak into tonight's game after going 2-for-5 last night. Guzman is hitting .405 (17-42) with a homer and three RBIs. Gold and Botts each bring 9-game streaks into tonight. Kevin Mahar has a 7-game streak after going 1-for-5 last night.
DOT-DOT-DOT:. Seven RedHawks had a double yesterday as the Hawks hit a season-high seven doubles...The RedHawks are 5-1 in June as they lead the PCL with a .353 team batting average this month...The RedHawks improved to 21-2 when they have a lead after six innings. They are 3-26 when trailing after six innings...The Hawks are 4-0 since putting Botts in the No. 3 and Gold in the No. 4 spots in the batting order...Botts has played in every game this season.
