August 21, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
OKC Energy FC News Release
OKC native and Energy FC midfielder Josh Garcia has been called up to represent the Dominican Republic national team for the second time in his career. Garcia will fly to Bahrain for an international friendly against the United Arab Emirates to be played on August 30. The DR national team will then compete in the Concacaf Nations League against Montserrat on September 7 and El Salvador on September 10.
Garcia, a graduate of US Grant High School in Oklahoma City, captained the Energy FC U23 team in 2018 and signed his first professional contract with the Energy FC first team in January of 2019.
Garcia's first call-up to the national team was on February 16, 2019, as the OKC-native played all 90 minutes in a 1-0 win over Guadeloupe.
"We're absolutely delighted for Josh", said Head Coach Steve Cooke. "He's worked very hard for this opportunity, and any time a player gets to represent his nation, it's a special moment for him and his family. We wish him nothing but the best and hope he enjoys every minute of it."
Energy FC have had nine players earn national team call-ups while with the club. In addition to Garcia, Cordell Cato (Trinidad and Tobago), Coy Craft (U.S. U-20 team), Atiba Harris (Saint Kitts & Nevis), Alvin Jones (Trinidad and Tobago), Cody Laurendi (Puerto Rico), Jaime Siaj (Jordan), Je-Vaughn Watson (Jamaica) and Mekeil Williams (Trinidad and Tobago) have all received the honor.
Energy FC are at home Saturday to take on Austin Bold FC. The match will kick off at 8 p.m. CDT from Taft Stadium.
