Oklahoma City Blue News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY, Dec. 10, 2014 - The Oklahoma City Blue defeated the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, 129-89, on Wednesday behind Mitch McGary's 26 points, nine rebounds, four steals and four blocks in 28 minutes. Fellow Oklahoma City Thunder assignee Grant Jerrett scored 17 points with six rebounds in 25 minutes.
Entering the night averaging 123.9 points per game, the Vipers were held to under 100 points for the first time since Feb. 22, 2013. The Blue held Rio Grande Valley to a 31.6 field goal percentage and forced 28 Viper turnovers, including 14 off of steals. The 40-point Blue win represents the largest margin of victory in the Thunder's development team's history.
"I was really pleased with our ball movement and the steps we've taken defensively in terms of understanding and executing our system," said Blue Head Coach Mark Daigneault. "I thought our guys made really good in-game adjustments tonight and that we played hard and played together."
Oklahoma City shot 54-of-94 (.574) from the field as six Blue players scored in double figures. Josh Huestis scored 21 points with three rebounds and three steals and fellow Thunder draft pick Semaj Christon recorded 13 points and 10 assists.
Off the bench, Marquis Teague scored 19 points with five assists and Mario Little added 12 points, seven boards and four assists.
The Blue showed intensity on both ends of the floor right out of the gates, beginning the night with a 12-2 run and outscoring the Vipers 38-25 in the opening quarter. The Blue led by 10 or more points for all but 31 seconds of the game's final three quarters to secure its third home win of the year.
Oklahoma City (4-5) won the rebounding battle 56-46 and distributed a season-high 28 assists.
Rio Grande Valley (5-5) was led by Jaron Johnson with 15 points and six boards.
The Blue is back in action on Thursday when it hosts the Texas Legends at 7 p.m. at the COX Convention Center. For ticket information, visit OklahomaCityBlue.com.
