OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services has selected the Oklahoma City Dodgers as its 2015 Business of the Year, the organizations announced today.

The Oklahoma DRS will present the award to the OKC Dodgers as part of People with Disabilities Awareness Day Tuesday, April 5 at the Oklahoma State Capitol, 2300 N. Lincoln Blvd. in Oklahoma City.

The Oklahoma DRS Business of the Year award is given annually to an organization that has demonstrated service excellence to Oklahoma DRS agency clients, divisions or students in a courteous and ethical manner. The DRS executive director selects the winner based on nominations submitted throughout the year by DRS staff.

"We named OKC Dodgers DRS' Business of the Year because they have the same high expectations for our clients with disabilities that they do for all their employees," said Noel Tyler, Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services Interim Director. "We can't ask employers for any more than that - it's all about opportunity to succeed."

The Oklahoma DRS' Support Services Division selected the Dodgers as winner of the 2015 Gold Star Award at the division level last fall. Additionally, OKC Dodgers customer service staff member Carter Williams won the 2015 DRS Transition Employee of the Year award.

The OKC Dodgers coordinated with iJobs, an Oklahoma DRS training program for high school students with disabilities, to hire two students to join a handful of other individuals with disabilities working as part of the Dodgers' customer service staff during the 2015 season. Their duties included greeting fans, handing out game programs, scanning tickets and assisting with other events at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. "We are so thankful and proud to receive this recognition from the Oklahoma DRS," OKC Dodgers President/General Manager Michael Byrnes said. "We have built a great relationship with the Oklahoma DRS and appreciate all of the organization's support, as well as the hard work of the employees we gained through the iJobs program and beyond."

People with Disabilities Awareness Day at the State Capitol provides individuals the opportunity to speak with legislators and decision makers who can impact services available for Oklahomans living with disabilities. The event runs from noon - 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, and the awards presentation is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Oklahoma State Capitol.
