Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The Milwaukee Brewers and Colorado Springs Sky Sox are excited to announce the team's preliminary Opening Day roster for the 2016 Pacific Coast League season. The season gets underway on Thursday, April 7th at AutoZone Park against the Memphis Redbirds with first pitch slated for 6:05pm MDT. The preliminary 28-man roster contains 14 pitchers, three catchers, six infielders and five outfielders. The roster will be cut down to 25 prior to Thursday's season opener.
The Sky Sox roster features five of Milwaukee's top-30 prospects, according to Baseball America, including the top two overall prospects in shortstop Orlando Arcia (1) and pitcher Jorge Lopez (2). Pitchers Zach Davies (12) and Damien Magnifico (30) along with outfielder Michael Reed (17) join Arcia and Lopez as Milwaukee's top-prospects on the Sky Sox roster.
The roster includes 10 members of Milwaukee's current 40-man roster. That list includes Arcia, Lopez, Davies, Magnifico and Reed as well as infielders Garin Cecchini and Andy Wilkins and pitchers Tyler Cravy, Junior Guerra and David Goforth.
The roster will have a familiar look for Sky Sox fans as eight players on the roster spent time in Colorado Springs last season. Veteran outfielders Shane Peterson and Ben Guez are joined by pitchers Hiram Burgos, Zach Davies, Tim Dillard, Austin Ross, Brent Suter, and Tyler Cravy. In addition, Eric Young Jr. returns to Colorado Springs for the first time since playing for the Sky Sox in 2011. Young Jr. spent parts of the 2009-11 seasons with the Sky Sox during their affiliation with the Colorado Rockies.
